Synopsis for "Mind Over Magnetism"
Doctor Polaris has trapped Green Lantern at the North Pole, stolen his power ring and traveled to Los Angeles where he combines the ring's power and his own magentic powers into enthralling the population into mindless zombies. With each person he affects, he grows stronger and manages to fight off an attack by several military vehicles. At the North Pole, Green Lantern manages to free himself from the restraining device he had been trapped in and begins a long journey towards civilization. He manages to catch a fish, fend off a polar bear (during which he falls into the freezing waters) and a wolf, become snow blind and still stumble upon a scientific expedition which takes him to safety. In New York City, Carol Ferris is kidnapped. The government cancels their contract with Ferris Aircraft which will put it out of business. Shortly afterwards Ferris Aircraft's location is bombed. Tom Kalmaku contemplates suicide when he is found by a still-blind Hal Jordan who needs his help.

Synopsis for "Earth-Ground"
Last issue Adam Strange managed to sneak into Kaskor's secret headquarters and overheard his invasion plans. Kaskor tortures Adam with his Molecular Disruptor but Adam refuses to talk. Kaskor realizes he needs to leave to start the invasion and leaves Adam in the hands of Alva Xar to continue the torture. Alva reveals that the Disruptor was jury-rigged from Adam's Zeta-transmitter. Adam realizes the way to escape is to goad Alva into accelerating the machine so it overloads the circuitry. As the machinery starts to break down, Adam convinces Alva that the machine will explode and kill them both if he doesn't shut down the power. Alva does so freeing Adam who defeats Alva and storms the awaiting guards screaming like a madman which scares them off. Adam heads into some catacombs which lead him to a secret compartment where he keeps his extra equipment. He finds his Jet Pack just as the places begins to explode. Adam discovers that every exit has been sealed but, just as the base is about to explode, Adam's Zeta radiation wears off and he transports unconcious to Earth.

"Men of Oa - you who now call yourselves Guardians of the Universe - I know you are watching me, so heed my words well. I am coming for you, Guardians - coming to destroy you and your precious universe - and there is nothing you or your simpering Green Lanterns can do to stop me!!!"

Synopsis for "Challenge!"
The Guardians of the Universe call together all 3,600 members of the Green Lantern Corps for a special emergency meeting on Oa. They warn the GL Corps of the coming of one of their oldest, most dangerous enemies -- Krona. Krona interferes with the assembly, causing the Central Power Battery to explode. Several Green Lanterns are killed in the explosion, and the others scramble to put out the fires caused by the ensuing green energy inferno.

Synopsis for "Defeat!"
The Green Lanterns deduce that Krona intends to revert the universe to its Primal Atom state, destroying Oa, and have to fight Krona’s army to try to get to him.

"Do you hear me - I'm a Green Lantern!! I swore an oath to protect this woebegone universe, and I won't turn my back on it now! So go on - go back to your home worlds if you must. Meet death on your knees if that's the way you want it. But I remember a saying we used to have in the Corps - "Once a Green Lantern, always a Green Lantern." So I'm going to use what little time my Power Ring has left, and I'm going to finish Krona - even if I have to do it alone!"

Synopsis for "No Evil Shall Escape My Sight"
Green Lantern prevents a group of street toughs from harassing an elderly man. Using his ring, he scoops the assailant up and transports him to jail. Onlookers to the incident however, including Green Arrow, show their disapproval of Green Lantern's actions. The man whom Green Lantern saved is an unscrupulous slum lord named Jubal Slade. Green Arrow gives Hal a tour of one of Slade's buildings, showing him all of the people that Slade plans on putting out into the streets after he sells the building.
After learning the truth, Hal tries to intimidate Jubal Slade, but Slade has the law on his side, and Green Lantern's threats fall on deaf ears. Enraged, Hal prepares to punch Slade, but an image of one of the Guardians appears before him, admonishing him for his conduct.

The Guardians of the Universe summon Hal back to Oa. They send him on a mission to the orbit of Saturn where he is to divert a meteor shower from striking Saturn's moon, Titan.

Back on Earth, Green Arrow tries to trick Jubal Slade into accepting a bribe. He arranges to have Slade's goons meet up with him later for a payoff. The thugs however, try to kill Green Arrow, but fail.

Having realised that the Guardians have dispatched him on a useless mission (there is no life on Titan to be endangered by the meteor shower) and they have simply sent him somewhere to cool off and think about his actions, Hal disobeys orders and returns to Earth where Green Arrow tells him about his failure to trick Slade. They find district attorney Jeremy Tine and bring him to Slade's penthouse. Disguising himself as one of Slade's goons, Hal tricks Slade into confessing to the attempted murder of Green Arrow. After Hal reveals himself, Slade tries to escape, distracting the heroes with a hand grenade. Hal dispatches the grenade and Slade is arrested.

Afterward, the Guardians admonish Hal Jordan again for abandoning his post around Titan. It is Green Arrow who rises to Hal's defense, challenging the Guardians to come down from their perch and experience what it is to live as a normal human being. The Guardians ponder the offer and send one of their own to Earth to travel with Green Lantern and Green Arrow.

Synopsis for "Journey to Desolation!"
Green Lantern, Green Arrow and their Guardian companion travel to the town of Desolation. They encounter a group of disgruntled miners who, mistaking them for enemies, begin taking pot shots at them with their rifles. Green Arrow and Green Lantern diffuse the situation and learn that the miners are being led by a man named Jacob. Jacob tells them about Slapper Soames — a land baron who has forced his way into a position of power in the small mining community and uses a personal band of armed troops to enforce his laws. Jacob tells the heroes of one of their own, a man named Johnny Walden, who inspired them to take up arms against Soames's stormtroopers. Green Arrow and Green Lantern agree to help them for fear that the angry mob will only cause harm to themselves. They break into Soames' elaborate prison system, but Green Lantern grows concerned when his ring begins behaving strangely. The Guardian sends a telepathic signal to his comrades back on Oa and learns that his fellow Guardians have restricted Hal's power levels. The heroes manage to force their way inside Soames's prison and save Johnny, but mob leader Jacob betrays them, revealing himself as one of Slapper's accomplices. They disarm Jacob and Johnny punches him in the jaw, knocking him to the floor. Disgusted by what they have seen, Green Lantern, Green Arrow and the Guardian take their leave of Desolation.

Includes an Editorial by Roger Slifer and an introduction by Dennis O'Neil.
The first story in this issue leads into the "Hard Traveling Heroes" story-arc which dominates the series for several years.

Synopsis for "Threat of the Tattooed Man!"
After having his portrait painted by artist Lee Kerr for an art exhibition (which leaves Carol madly jealous when she sees that Lee is an attractive woman) The gallery is robbed by the Tattooed Man, a sailor who's tattoos become reality once he touches them. Using them to best Green Lantern in combat, the Tattooed Man manages to escape with the loot he had come to steal. As he gets away he recounts how he got his powers one day while breaking into a science lab and finding a special ink that turns whatever is drawn with it into reality.
Freeing himself from the tattoo eagle that was created to carry him away, Green Lantern suspects that Tattooed Man's next theft will be of two priceless crowns and so uses his power ring to coat them with a radiation that will set off his power ring if they are taken from their display cases. Sure enough, the Tattooed Man strikes again, and this time Hal is ready for him. Hoping to get away by blinding Green Lantern and making all his tattoos disappear so that he can make a getaway. However Green Lantern had managed to protect himself and is able to catch the Tattooed Man and turn him over to the police.

Synopsis for "The Green Lantern Disasters!"
When the Guardians of the Universe have not heard back from Xax the insectile Green Lantern from the planet Xao, they contact Hal Jordan and send him on a mission to learn what happened to his fellow Green Lantern. Flying to the planet Xao, Hal finds that the planet has been over run by the Wasp Gang, who had learned the color yellow is immune to the Green Lantern's power ring.
The Wasp Gang then plots to use the the yellow leaves of Xao to make the power rings useless on the planet. However, Hal sends Xax to use his power ring to speed up the planets season rotation making it summer and making the leaves change yellow. Thereby allowing the two Green Lanterns to use their power rings without issue, and they easily defeat the Wasp Gang and restore order to the planet Xao.

The Bloch brothers continue their secret assault on the Ferris family and company, while Carl and Carol Ferris and their closest friends and allies begin to strike back.

Anti-Green Lantern Corps (The Original "Black" Lanterns)

Origin
In the Anti-Matter Universe, the dark counterparts of the Guardians of the Universe were the Weaponers of Qward. This evil race after capturing a member of the Green Lantern Corps discovered that they were unable to claim the individuals power ring. Since that time, they had long sought to create their own equivalent and after a century they managed to perfect the process creating the anti-ring which had the power over the black light.
With this new weapon, they began to create their own Anti-Green Lantern Corps as these rings were capable of accomplishing the same feats that their Oan equivalent was capable of doing. However, whilst powerful, they suffered from the fact that they needed a strong will to direct them which forced the Weaponers to alter the brain capacities of their soldiers. This in turn had the unfortunate side effect of burning of their warriors and made them dependent on the rings which had a charge of only 24 hours after which they would expire along with their users.

Enemies of The Green Light
The Weaponers eventually began the next step of their operations which was kidnapping Hal Jordan at a time when he was thinking of leaving the Green Lantern Corps. This was because they wanted to examine his ring in order to perfect the Qwardians own Corps and in exchange for his help they pledged that they would spare the planet Earth. Whilst he apparently agreed with them, he worked to destroy their Power Battery but was stopped by the over two thousand Anti-Green Lanterns. He managed to ultimately escape and was rescued by Green Lantern Arisia where he explaiend to her that he had been sent undercover to ascertain the Qwardians plans. Together, they sought to escape and warn the Green Lantern Corps of this new threat.
Whilst at the portal between universes, Jordan was attacked by St'nlli, a Qwardian with the power to alter his enemies mind to evil who turned Hal Jordan against Arisia. She was ultimately saved by the other Green Lantern Corps who had tracked her since Oa and together they helped return Jordan back to normal. The Anti-Green Lantern Corps later battled one hundred Green Lanterns and during the fight it was Hal Jordan alongside Arisia as well as Katma Tui who travelled to the Qwardian's Main Power Battery where they managed to destroy it. Without its energy, the anti-power rings were powerless and the Anti-Green Lantern Corps was defeated.
